Movita means "movement of life" in Latin. The company was founded in 1996 by Andrea Pastorella through the creation of a mother/daughter duet. Movita has been based in New York for 10 years. After a two year adventure of pioneering the art form of American modern dance in Ireland, we have returned to the upstate New York area (Woodstock)to re create this company.
Movita is committed to presenting works that further creative self-expression; integrate adults and young people as team; and to bringing quality performances to our communities and beyond. The choreography is created with classical and contemporary music and works are developed with composers, artists and poets.
The company has performed annually in New York, Boston, Canada and Ireland. Movita Dance Theatre participates in dance festivals throughout North America; in 2001 Movita was featured in a program called Pas de Deux Potter at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
The dances illuminate the human condition and our transformations through intimate movement of unspoken moments; we express the love, the pain, the humor and the magic of life. Movita aims to inspire union among people through the art form of American modern dance.
